En la región de Coahuila existe una cueva muy particular que de ser una “simple covacha” pasó a ser monumento histórico, y ustedes se preguntarán ¿y cómo pasó esto?
Pues en tiempo de Don Benito Juárez, siendo Presidente de la República se vió en la necesidad de recorrer grandes distancias para conservar y resguardar los archivos de la nación, esencia clara de nuestro gobierno y fue así como llegó a lo que ahora conocemos como la ciudad de Matamoros, Coah; en donde un estrecho orificio esculpido por la naturaleza, se encontró con “La Cueva del Tabaco” en donde permanecieron por cuatro meses actas, papeles, decretos y documentación en general que conformaban nuestro régimen de libertad y democracia.
Don Benito Juárez y su familia fueron acogidos en este lugar, en una cavidad remota y obscura donde estos archivos estuvieron resguardados por hombres valientes y leales seguidores de Juárez hasta la restitución de la República, mientras se vivió la guerra civil. Estos hombres que apoyaron la causa y la visión de Juárez, al guardar estos documentos en esta cueva con la intención de preservar la República tal y como fue concebida, por ese momento histórico y lo que representa es lo que ha hecho que esta simple covacha se convirtiera en el monumento histórico que es hoy.

Don Benito Juárez and its family were welcomed in this place, in a remote and dark cavity where these archives were protected by brave men and loyal followers of Juárez until the restitution of the Republic, while the civil war was lived. These men who supported the cause and the vision of Juárez, by keeping these documents in this cave with the intention to preserve the Republic as he was conceived, by that historical moment and what he represents is what has caused that this simple covacha became the historical monument that is today.
